University of Hull Sports Centre

The new Hull Sports Centre will house a 12 court sports facility, including international-standard netball courts and bleacher-style seating for 700 spectators. The aim is to provide the regional hub for netball. The versatile space will be used for a multitude of sports, including Basketball, Badminton, Futsal and Volleyball among others.

AAS Ltd were employed by Kingston Joinery Contractors to supply 1300 sq/m of White Beech Plywood Panelling to the Main Sports Hall. The panelling design comprised of solid panels together with slotted/drilled panels. The perforated panelling is designed to provide sound absorption to the sports hall and also to provide an aesthetic back drop. In certain areas, perforated panels are not used in the traditional sense of providing sound absorption, but,  kept open to allow light through into the sports hall from the glass façade behind. At one end of the hall, a number of slotted panels were formed  to create the word ‘HULL’ which can be seen when the end wall is back-lit from behind.
